ADVENTURE
Batman: Arkham Shadow first gameplay trailer pays tribute to Asylum fans | Android Central

BATMAN: ARKHAM SHADOW

This game has a great reputation and for good reason. It’s just like the classic Arkham games, albeit in VR. With the game including everything the older games did but with added immersion, this is a must have addition to your library.

SHOOTER
Vendetta Forever: A New VR Gaming Experience Launches on Meta Quest and PlayStation VR2 - VR Today Magazine - VR Games News, Reviews and Guides

VENDETTA FOREVER

An intense shooting experience that has you zipping about wildly different stages shooting enemies that try and overwhelm you.

The game feels like a spiritual successor to Superhot and is an absolute joy to play due to the sheer amount of variety on offer.

PLATFORMER
Max Mustard. Análisis Meta Quest - ZONA THE GAMERS

MAX MUSTARD

After PS4’s Astro Bot: Rescue Mission, VR enthusiasts have been clamouring for a sequel. The PS5 got one … but it ended up being flattened.

Thankfully Toast Interactive have developed a great alternative with Max Mustard. It’s such a tight and colourful platformer that it makes you not care about Sony’s negligence.

PUZZLE
The House of Da Vinci VR en Steam

THE HOUSE OF DA VINCI VR

I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect from this VR reimagining of the original The House of Da Vinci. However, the developers have done a fantastic job at adapting it to VR, giving you lots to tinker with and solve. With an almost perfect difficulty curve, it’ll keep you both engaged and progressing constantly until you hit the credits.

I wish there was more, but that’s just a testament as to how fun it is.

PHYSICS
Hide The Corpse - The Ultimate Arcade VR Body-Hiding Physics Challenge | Quest App Lab Game

HIDE THE CORPSE

People who follow me on social media should be aware that Hide the Corpse is my favourite indie VR game. It’s so delightfully addictive, and the range of hiding places are a joy to find.

I only hope Realcast keep adding content so that I never get bored of it. If you buy one VR game, grab this one.

STRATEGY
Homeworld: Vast Reaches Brings The Iconic Franchise to Virtual and Mixed Reality

HOMEWORLD: VAST REACHES

Yes, the game may be quite light on content since it bizarrely lacks a skirmish mode (seriously Farbridge, please add one), but I just can’t deny that I was hooked to this game from start to finish. It’s such a fantastic space strategy game, showing off what can be done in VR.

SIMULATION
DIG VR - Wired Productions

DIG VR

Have I played Powerwash Simulator? Yes. Do I prefer Dig VR? Also yes. Seeking that same vibe of slow-paced work that is somehow really relaxing and satisfying, Dig VR really feels like you’re behind the controls of a Digger as you haphazardly destroy everyone’s garden.

Good stuff!

RHYTHM
Review - Trombone Champ: Unflattened (Meta Quest 2) | WayTooManyGames | N4G

TROMBONE CHAMP: UNFLATTENED

On the Switch, Trombone Champ was almost perfect. On the Quest, it’s absolutely perfect. With immersive controls, great control detection, a new structured single player, and that same silly fun, it’s just an absolute joy.

RPG
Journey to Foundation (Quest)

JOURNEY TO FOUNDATION

The closest we’ve got to Mass Effect VR, and there really isn’t anything else like it on the Quest. It may be quite linear in structure, but the conversations, the powers, and the combat all make this a wild ride.

It also has a great sci-fi story too based on Isaac Asimov’s Foundation series.

HORROR
Image

METRO AWAKENING

With its oppressive atmosphere, limited supplies, and troublesome spiders, Metro is a real assault on your senses. You never really feel completely safe and death could come at any moment. It may not be a traditional horror, but you’ll be kept almost constantly on edge the entire time.

NARRATIVE
Female Muscle clip 640 - Sushi Ben - YouTube

SUSHI BEN

Who would have thought that a visual novel would have worked in VR? Well, that is essentially what Sushi Ben is. Sure it has some mini-games to break up the story, but this is all about Ben and his Sushi Restaurant as you try your best to help him get back on his feet.

If you don’t think this type of game is for you, then you’re wrong. Try it and see for yourself.

RACING
Galaxy Kart [Meta Quest 3] - The Elite Institute

GALAXY KART

I originally thought that a fast paced kart racer would be vomit inducing in VR, but somehow Galaxy Kart pulled it off. With some weird characters, great tracks, and an assortment of items designed for VR, this is the perfect VR kart racer.

VR CONVERSION
Resident Evil 4 VR Gameplay | Oculus Quest 2 | First 20 Minutes

RESIDENT EVIL 4

Not only is Resident Evil 4 on the Quest the best conversion of a flat game into VR, but it’s arguably the best game on the Quest. Whilst I can take or leave the original, the VR version is a masterpiece.

Sure, the flat cutscenes are garbage, but literally everything else is done so damn well that you won’t care all that much.

MIXED REALITY
Image

WALL TOWN WONDERS

Games designed purely for mixed reality tend to be quite shallow experiences that are over far too quickly. Wall Town Wonders, on the other hand, feels like a proper town builder.

It may lack the depth and difficulty of resource management that you may want, but if you can accept that then this really is the best mixed reality game on the system.

MULTIPLAYER
Mannequin [Meta Quest 3] - The Elite Institute

MANNEQUIN

I’m not really one for multiplayer games, so this category was pretty hard to choose from. However there’s one game that I adored my time with: Mannequin.

With one team having a special radar to track the shape shifting aliens, and the other being able to pose as statues, it’s a matter of wits and reflexes to see who wins.
